Corsica the island many believe due to its proximity is Italian but is actually French, so naturally it reflects both culturals with both food influences which ensures a fascinating mix. The Sunday Times once described Corsoca's beaches as "The Worlds Ten Best Secret Beaches" which even for the Sunday Times is no understatement.
Corsica is not just about beaches the other favourite past time is eating, naturally freshly caught seafood is high on the menu, but meat eaters are well catered for with lamb, pork and wild boar dishes with tha addition of the islands wild herbs it adds to that distinctif Corsican flavour. For those still with Italy in mind pastas and pizzas are available with that hint of Corsica.
Corsica's geography is most becoming, made up of over 20 mountains, numerous rivers, sandy white beaches, and rocky cliffs. Explore the island using hiking trails ranging from four-day ventures to near-annihilating 200 km, 15 day trudges, while boat tours are ideal for reaching the more inaccessible areas of the coastline.
Corsica is proud of its conservation areas and nature reserves which have been given national recognition or registered on Unesco's world heritage list, its International marine reserve, and its Regional Nature Reserve which stretches from one side to the other of its mountain range, from Calvi to Porto-Vecchio, Corsica remains for the most part a protected island. With more than 2000 plant species, Corsica will dazzle you with colour. Five nature reserves protect some unique flora and fauna with the Cerbicale Isles that provide a sanctuary for crested cormorants, the Lavezzi Isles where 68 species of fish have been recorded, the Finocchiarola and Scandola Isles that are France's leading land and sea reserve, and the Biguglia lagoon where 127 species of aquatic birds nest. In the spring everything is in bloom and the maquis is at its most fragrant, autumn is also a delight when the chestnut harvest is celebrated in the hilltop villages, making Corsica a delight to explore whatever the season.
Evening entertainment is relaxed spent in good company with a glass of local wine, Corsican of course, the only way to end a day in this wonderful island. If you are looking for raucous nights and modern mass produced entertainment this is not the island for you, bet it sounds better already.
