Gambia

Gambia is truly a fantastc wintersun destination, temperatures are high and rain is virtually unheard of rain from November right through to June. It is slowly becoming a summer destination, brief but heavy showers transform The Gambia into a blaze of greens and tropical flowering trees and then back comes the sun. Beware many hotels do not provide a full programme of entertaiment in the summer months. The sandy beaches are magnificient as are the Gambian people, may not be the ideal destination for eveyone as the pace of life is unhurried and night life is more for socialising with a nice meal and a glass or two. There are a couple of discos if you have withdrawal symptoms.You can be suprised by the evidence of poverty and begging, please remember this is a developing third world country but no matter what you see it does not detract from the warmth of the hospitality shown by the people of Gambia. Many Gambians make a living selling fruit, nuts and handicrafts, unfortunately unofficial guides, known locally as bumsters, can be persistent to the point of nuisance but a firm no eventually gets through.
